Implicit Bias and its Impact on Student Success
Implicit biases are cognitive shortcuts that we rely upon to assess and react to the copious amounts of information we encounter each day. Unfortunately, some of our implicit biases are based on stereotypes, assumptions, and other distorted or inaccurate pieces of information that can impact the way we perceive, evaluate, and make decisions about our students and others. Students (and others) can also internalize these biases in the form of stereotype threat and imposter syndrome, which can impact their performance and sense of belonging. In this session, participants will about these concepts as well as ways to mitigate their negative impact.

Fostering Inclusion and Belonging in Teams & Departments
Fostering an environment in which all team members feel valued, included and a sense of belonging takes intentional effort. If we are not thoughtful and intentional about creating spaces where everyone can be themselves, bring their best and thrive, we may end up just doing things the easiest way, our preferred way, or the way things have always been done. While this may work for some, it likely does not work well for everyone. And if this is the case, it means we are not maximizing our potential as teams or colleagues. In this session, participants will share and learn new ways to intentionally enhance our sense of inclusion and belonging in our teams.
