UMSL Chancellor Tom George presented the Chancellor's Award for Excellence and Gerald and Deanne Gitner Excellence in Teaching Award Sept. 21 at the annual State of the University Address. Award recipients include (from left) Brian Hutchison, assistant professor of counseling and family therapy; Theresa Keuss, assistant to the registrar; J. Frederick Fausz, associate professor of history; Richard Wright, Curators' Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice; Dr. Barbara Brown, director of student recruitment and admissions in optometry; Donald Gouwens, clinical associate professor of educational psychology, research and evaluation; Thomas Lange, mail carrier; and George Gokel, associate director for the Center of Nanoscience.

Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence were presented to faculty and staff at the University of Missouri–St. Louis Sept. 21 as part of the annual State of the University Address. Faculty and staff with 25 years of service to the university also were honored. Nearly 400 people attended the event in the auditorium at the J.C. Penney Building/Conference Center.

Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence were presented to the following faculty:

  • Research and Creativity: George W. Gokel Jr., associate director, Center for Nanoscience and Distinguished Professor of Science, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
  • Teaching: J. Frederick Fausz, associate professor of history
  • Service: Richard T. Wright, Curators’ Professor of Criminology
  • Non-Tenure Track Faculty: Donald A. Gouwens, clinical associate professor of educational psychology

Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence were presented to the following staff:

  • Administrative/Professional: Barbara W. Brown, OD, director of student recruitment and admissions in optometry
  • Office/Technical: Theresa L. Keuss, assistant to the registrar
  • Service/Maintenance: Thomas W. Lange, mail carrier

The Gerald and Deanne Gitner Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to Brian L. Hutchison, assistant professor of counseling and family therapy.

Awards for 25 years of service were presented to the following faculty:

  • James Campbell, professor of logistics and operations management
  • Thomas Eysell, associate dean and professor of finance
  • Kailash Joshi, professor of information systems
  • Uma A. Segal, professor of social work
  • Carol Weber, lecturer in physical education

Staff awards for 25 years of service were presented to:
