If this year’s men’s basketball team continues its winning ways, expect comparisons to the 1971-72 team. Thirty years ago, that dominant group racked up school records for points scored, rebounds, assists and most consecutive wins en route to a 21-6 season and an NCAA tournament bid.

On Feb. 10, it will be one of two teams, four student-athletes and one distinguished service honoree to be recognized at the 2012 Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner & Ceremony. The evening will begin at 5:45 p.m. at the St. Louis Hilton at the Ballpark, 1 S. Broadway (63102) adjacent to Busch Stadium. Online registration for the event is open; RSVPs are requested by Jan. 27.

This year’s induction class includes Ron Brewer (men’s golf), Lauren Glenn (women’s golf), Ron Porter (men’s basketball), William Shanks (baseball) the 1971-72 men’s basketball team, the 1992 and 1993 men’s golf teams and Chico Jones (men’s basketball), the recipient of the Marty Hendin Distinguished Service Award.
