The Arianna String Quartet, UMSL’s resident quartet, was named a “Best Bet” in the Aug. 30 issue of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Go! Magazine.

Samoa Asigau, a student pursuing a PhD in biology, was featured Aug. 1 in the St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU story “Two young women scientists from UMSL forge their futures in the Galapagos.”

Lynn Beckwith, the E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor of Urban Education in Connection with St. Louis Public Schools, was featured Aug. 1 in The St. Louis American article “Lynn Beckwith Jr., 2013 Lifetime Achiever in Education.”

Sam Bommarito, adjunct assistant professor of secondary and K-12 education, was quoted Aug. 3 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “St. Louis teens fill summer time with news writing.”

Alumna Berakiah Boone, MEd 2013, was featured Aug. 16 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “SLSO has new director of education.”

Kathleen Sullivan Brown, associate professor of educational leadership and policy studies, was quoted Aug. 8 in the Associated Press article “Missouri school transfer ruling opens old wounds,” which ran in nearly 300 publications across the United States. Brown was quoted Aug. 14 in the St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU article “FAQ: What you need to know about Missouri school transfers.” She was quoted Aug. 22 in the St. Louis Beacon article “Place matters: Changing schools can change student test scores, research shows.” Brown was quoted Aug. 23 in the KTVI (Channel 2) story “Will your school district lose its accreditation?” She was quoted Aug. 23 in the KSDK (Channel 5) story “Commissioner: Minority achievement gap widening in Missouri.” Brown discussed what the new scores mean for the future of St. Louis-area schools on the Aug. 26 episode of “St. Louis on the Air,” a program on St. Louis Public Radio.

Michael Campbell, assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice, was quoted Aug. 18 in The Washington Post article “Cuccinelli says sentencing policy should be judged, in part, on cost.”

John Dalton, director of the MFA in Creative Writing program, was quoted Aug. 29 in the Riverfront Times article “Jennifer Tappenden: 2013 Riverfront Times MasterMind Award Winner.”

Alumnus Patrick Dorsey, BA English 1989, was featured Aug. 2 in the Webster-Kirkwood (Mo.) Times article “New summer reads by local authors.”

Perry Drake, assistant teaching professor of marketing, was quoted Aug. 9 in the St. Louis Business Journal article “UMSL, SLU introduce social media into curriculum.”

Charles Hoffman, dean of the College of Business Administration, was featured Aug. 12 in the Clayton-Richmond Heights (Mo.) Patch article “Covad Communications CEO named dean of UMSL’s College of Business Administration.” Hoffman was featured Aug. 23 in the St. Louis Business Journal article “UMSL names Hoffman dean of business.” 

Dan Isom, Endowed Professor in Policing and Community, was featured Aug. 16 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Two STLers describe international travels.”

Alumna Kelcy Hulbert, BSEd 2011, was featured Aug. 12 in The Journal-News (Hillsboro, Ill.) article “College report: Hulbert hooping it up for the Arch Angels.”

Vicki Jacobson, director of the Center for Excellence in Financial Counseling, was quoted Aug. 11 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Student borrowers are going broke.”

Farida Jalalzai, associate professor of political science, discussed women in politics on the Aug. 7 episode of “St. Louis on the Air,” a program on St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU.

Mari Cruz Jaramillo, a student pursuing a PhD in biology, was featured Aug. 1 in the St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU story “Two young women scientists from UMSL forge their futures in the Galapagos.”

Jennifer McKnight, associate professor of art, was quoted Aug. 20 in the University City (Mo.) Patch article “International poster art on display at UMSL’s Gallery FAB.” McKnight discussed the international poster art exhibit on the Aug. 23 episode of “Cityscape,” a program on St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU. She was quoted Aug. 15 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “International poster art on display at UMSL’s Gallery FAB.”

Michael Murray, Curators Teaching Professor of Media Studies, discussed race, rights and diversity on the Aug. 22 episode of “Stay Tuned” on KETC (Channel 9).

Joseph O’Sullivan, dean of the UMSL/WUSTL Joint Undergraduate Engineering Program, was quoted Aug. 16 in the St. Louis Business Journal article “STEM talent staying in St. Louis depends on engagement.”
