Women’s Basketball
UMSL posted a 1-1 record in its return home last weekend. The Tritons suffered a 59-48 loss to Southern Indiana last Thursday, but bounced back to down Bellarmine, 80-59, on Saturday behind Alexis Lawrence’s 27 points, which included seven three-pointers. Junior Kelly Kunkel averaged 13 points and eight rebounds per game, including a 17-point, 10-rebound effort in the loss to USI, while Kelly McGovern averaged 10 points, nine rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. The Tritons (12-11, 8-7), one of four teams tied for second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division standings, will hold Quincy on Thursday – another 8-7 GLVC team – before traveling to Truman State on Saturday.

Men’s Basketball
UMSL suffered two home losses to a pair of GLVC East Division foes last weekend. The Tritons fell to Southern Indiana, 76-69, and to No. 3 ranked Bellarmine, 88-78. Junior Brandon Marquardt led the Tritons with 17.5 points per game. He tied his previous career-high of 16 against USI and then topped that with 19 against Bellarmine. He also averaged 5.5 assists per game, while shooting 53.3 percent (8-of 15) from three-point range. Senior Aareon Smith added 16 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, recording his 13th and 14th double-doubles of the year. The Tritons (16-9, 8-7 GLVC) host Quincy on Thursday night before traveling to Truman State on Saturday. The Tritons sit in third place in the West Division standings, one game behind Truman State and two games ahead of Quincy.

Softball
The No. 13 ranked University of Missouri–St. Louis Tritons posted a 3-0 record at the 8-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark., last weekend. The Tritons batted .353 as a team, led by senior Brianna Butler, who hit .583, recording seven hits, including three home runs, and 10 RBIs. Senior Katie Rutledge also had a three-home run weekend as UMSL tallied 11 in the three games, including six in its 12-7 win over East Central. Senior Brittni Chapman went 2-0 in the circle, while junior Hannah Perryman was 1-0 with a save. The Tritons (8-1) are back in action this weekend at the Lewis Indoor Tournament. UMSL will play five games, including a Saturday contest against Wayne State (Mich.), a rematch of last year’s NCAA DII Midwest Super Regional.

Men’s Swimming
UMSL recorded a seventh place finish in its first GLVC Swimming & Diving Championship last weekend. Matt Borges recorded the highest individual performance, placing seventh in the 200 fly and also swam on three placing relays, including the 200 freestyle relay and the 800 freestyle relay, which were sixth. UMSL returns to the pool on Saturday at the Drury Invitational.

Women’s Tennis
UMSL opened the spring portion of its schedule on Sunday with a 5-4 loss to Bellarmine. For complete results, click here. The Tritons are idle until March 5 when they travel to Newman in the start of a four-match road trip.
