University of Missouri–St. Louis senior Nils Mueggenburg has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of men’s tennis.

Mueggenburg helped the Tritons to three team wins last week, including a 9-0 shutout on the road at conference foe University of Illinois Springfield March 12. UMSL carried over the momentum of that win at week’s start for a 6-3 and 7-2 win over Grand Valley State University and McPherson College March 14 and 15, respectively, to close out the trio of victories.

At No. 1 singles, the senior went 2-6, 6-2, 10-1 to defeat Gerard Carpinell of UIS before topping Francis Bertrand of GVSU 7-6, 6-4, and concluding with a 6-3, 6-3 win past JM Fajula Rodrigure of McPherson. In the No. 1 doubles slot, he went 9-8 (7) past UIS’s Cole Bvehnerkemper and Hayden Esker with partner Harry Heyburn. Twice again with Heyburn, Mueggenburg took an 8-1 and 8-4 win over GVSU’s Bryan Hodges and Bertrand as well as McPherson’s Rodrigure and Ahmed Iahloc, respectively, to finish off his perfect week.

For the Hamburg, Germany, native, this is the second weekly honor of his career, earning the first March 27, 2012. Mueggenburg is majoring in business administration with an emphasis in international business and a student in the Pierre Laclede Honors College.

UMSL (5-3) returns to action at Harding on Friday.
