Diogo Dias

University of Missouri–St. Louis freshman Diogo Dias has been named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Athlete of the Week in the sport of men’s swimming and diving.

In just his third collegiate meet, Dias, a business administration major, broke a UMSL school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.71. He also touched first in the 100 back (49.74), 100 butterfly (49.93) and 200 medley relay with a fly split of 22.18. The freshman helped his team to a dual meet victory over Lincoln College, 837.5 to 431.5.

This is the first career weekly award for the Santos, Brazil, native and the first for a male Triton since Felix Kusnierz earned the honor at the end of last season on Jan. 20.

UMSL returns to the pool November 6-7 at Drury.
