In October, a group of University of Missouri–St. Louis piano students will embark on a whirlwind trip to Russia that will include performances, lectures and, of course, sightseeing.

Tom Winkler, John Nuckols, Daniel Kuehler and Daniel Dickson will perform a preview piece of their Russian trip program at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in Recital Room 205 of the Music Building. The event is free and open to the public.

On their trip the students will be accompanied by Alla Voskoboynikova, teaching associate professor of music and director of keyboard studies at UMSL, and James Richards, interim dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at UMSL.

While in Russia the group will visit the cities of Samara, Moscow and Voronezh. They’ll perform the works of Grieg, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin and Arensky, among others, in two programs, concerto and solo. Additionally, they will study with one of Voskoboynikova’s own teachers, Oleg Milman, of Voronezh, as well as prominent piano educators in Samara.

During the trip, Voskoboynikova will teach master classes to students in Samara and Voronezh. Richards will offer lectures on American composer and conductor Aaron Copland while in Russia.
