Mercantile Library readies for 7th annual print fair

Organizers are expecting up to 1,000 art and rare book collectors to pack this year’s St. Louis Mercantile Library Fine Print, Rare Book and Paper Arts Fair at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The number of dealers has increased to 25 this year and includes a fine-art gallery in Chesterfield.

Pott Inland Waterways Library to honor author, photographer

The Herman T.Pott National Inland Waterways Library will honor UMSL alumnus and author Earl Swift and marine photographer Gregory Thorp for their work about the nation's rivers, lakes and ports. The Pott Library is a special collection within the St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1.

Earl Swift travels the world and writes about what he sees and hears. For his powerful narratives and meticulous reporting he’s been named a PEN finalist, a five-time Pulitzer Prize nominee and earned a Fulbright fellowship. Gregory Thorp travels America’s inland waterways taking photographs of the machines that ply the water and mariners who work [...]

Buttons, cartoons, hanging chads highlight Mercantile exhibit

The history of presidential elections in the U.S. is captured with buttons, cartoons, ribbons and assorted political ephemera in the current exhibit, "Presidents and Politics" at the St. Louis Mercantile Library.
