If I knew then ….

Ever heard the saying, “…wish I knew then, what I know now”? Have no fear, the aim of this post is to change this from a regretful phrase to a principled cause for you. These suggestions aren’t just redundant rhetoric that you’ve heard in the past, but shared to bring the proverbial “then” to “now”.

Whether you have been able to watch some of the past and present GHC testimonials and other publications (Youtube video, Facebook, or friends who went previous years) or not, you will need a framework to compress the over-whelming experiences and fascinating people that you will meet. Never fear, you will get it here. There are three major things that should help you as you prepare for, attend and return from Houston:

First: Please check the event site and download the event app. You may want to do this for information as you blog to be as accurate and timely as possible. Downloading the event app also has other benefits as well like how to navigate the conference venue paperlessly. When they say “everything is bigger in Texas”, they don’t just mean toast. The venue is very large and you will do well to have several resources available for you to get around and explore on your own. It has other tremendous uses, so get into the site. The site also has the layout of the George R. Brown Convention Center, so you’ll know where your sessions, receptions, and shuttles stops are.

Second: Check Eventbright for other “sit-n-sips” that may interest you. Its okay to double book, as long as you RSVP while there is availability. You will also learn about these sorts of events after arrival (especially through the GHC app).

Next: Although there are event shuttles, you may want to get around town in new and interesting ways. The transportation link below should list a greater diveraity of transportation options from and to the airport and around town. The shuttle ends at around 8pm for most of the conference days, so arm yourself with options.

You may want to go to receptions located around downtown.

Last: Check the link below for Conference transportation tips and information. Notice the event shuttle page (link below)

Bonus: Pack lightly. It’s so much more fun when you’re comfortable and prepared. Am I right?!

I hope these tips help this years’ UMSL participants, and that you can access this entry/page if all else fails.
