A Solitary Flower

As I was being shuttled to the convention center this evening to pick up my badge for the conference tomorrow, I noticed a vibrant magenta flower growing among the mass of vines on the retaining walls. The vines and their roots, twisted and tangled, covered the expanse but one flower had managed to bloom alone. I recognized myself in that flower.

The career field I plan to enter is male dominated and it can seem overwhelming tying to find a place to fit in. But, maybe I don’t have to fit in. I have ideas unique to my experiences. I have something to offer that the “vines” might not have considered.

Thinking of my future in those terms is exciting. And I cannot wait to hear the experiences of other women tomorrow.
