Last week the UMSL IST Department initiated our annual crowdfunding program to help 13 students who want to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (AKA Hopper). The students whom we have sent in the past had a wonderful experience learning new technology, networking and learning about other women and the tracks they have followed. Then, in turn, those students have brought back what they learned to campus and shared it with other students. It was so much more than just sending students to a conference…. the experience permeated our department.
