Flex Work Series– This series was developed in response to focus group feedback requesting more information and options regarding flex work. If you’re interested in learning more about flex work, please join us for Flex Work Series: Flex Work 101  Friday, April 29 from 11-11:50am CT.

During this session we will answer questions like what is flex work and what are the different types? What exactly is our flex work policy? What makes some positions more or less suitable for flex work than others? We will also offer strategies for having conversations about flex work with your supervisor. Emerging Leader’s Program: The application is open for the Emerging Leaders program, a cohort-based leadership development program for faculty and staff that will launch this Fall. This program came about in response to the training and development needs expressed by the focus groups. Calling all UMSL supervisors—the start of a new semester is a great time to invest in your professional development. The Supervisor Development Series is intended to provide new supervisors or supervisors new to their role at UMSL, the tools needed to be effective in their positions.  This is a great opportunity to add to  your skills and network with other supervisors.

Registration for the series can be completed using this link, individuals should register for the six live webinars in the series through Percipio. Instructions follow below.

This learning Journey is comprised of 8 “Tracks”.

      • Please start by clicking on “Explore” in the “Communication, Professionalism, and Foundations of Supervision” track. This will take you to the “Learning Path” for the “Track”.
      • As you scroll down, you will see that there are 5 items on this path; to complete each path, all items listed must be completed.

Next select the “Interviewing, Selecting, and Onboarding Employees” track.

      • Please scroll down to the “Live Course” on the bottom right of that block please click on “Learn more & Register”.
      • This will open a new window, please click on the “+ Register” to get your name on the roster for that session.
      • Please repeat this process for each of the subsequent 5 tracks to register for the live sessions.

Time (or lack there of) can be a stressor for all of us. This month’s Percipio recommendation offers some strategies for making the most of your time and eliminating time-wasters. And speaking of time, the ODEI recommended training offers the opportunity to participate asynchronously on your own time if you already have too many scheduled zoom meetings.

Manage Your Time So It Doesn’t Manage You
In this course, you’ll consider how you’re spending your time now and what techniques you can use to spend it more wisely and productively. You’ll learn to block the time stealers that interfere with your productivity, use to-do lists and schedules to organize your time and tasks, and develop a regular habit of checking in with your plans to make sure you’re getting them done. DEI in the Academic Workplace: Creating Cultures of Inclusion

ODEI CommUNITY Series (March event) Radical Listening
An approach to engagement and dialogue that focuses on bearing witness to people’s stories. Participants will learn skills to actively focus, practice pausing and confirm with others the accuracy of our understanding of their stories and experiences. March 17, 2022 from 11am-12pm. Registration required.

UMSL Faculty & Staff Wellbeing Fair

On Wednesday, March 16, please join United Healthcare and UMSL Campus Recreation to celebrate your health and wellbeing.  The event will start at 10am with a light breakfast followed by an interactive presentation from UMSL Counseling Services.  The day will also include:

  • Two “Stretch at Your Desk” Sessions
  • Free assessments from the RWC Personal Trainers
  • Blood Pressure Checks
  • Chair Massages
  • Membership Promotions
  • An Informational Tabling Session starting at 11:30am

The event will conclude at 1:30pm.  Look for emails from UMSL Campus Recreation to sign up for the chair massages and a detailed full schedule.

This month’s professional development recommendations provide opportunities to learn effective and inclusive communication skills and strategies. In addition to healthy communication, we are featuring an opportunity to enhance your physical health as well!

Encouraging Team Communication and Collaboration.
Managing teams successfully involves ensuring that team members can communicate with you and with one another and that they will collaborate effectively as a team. To achieve this, clear channels of communication are required for both on-site and virtual teams. In this course, you’ll learn how to demonstrate team leadership by encouraging effective communication and overcoming communication problems. You’ll explore strategies for encouraging team collaboration. Finally, you’ll learn about tools and technologies that are commonly used for virtual teamwork and key considerations for establishing virtual communication guidelines. Inclusive Language Series.
This recorded 3-part webinar series will provide you with an opportunity to learn about currently appropriate terminology related to disability, LGBTQ+ communities, and race/ethnicity, as well as the reasoning behind why these terms are generally preferred. Cleola Butler
Cleola Butler serves as UMSL’s Human Resources Specialist specializing in recruiting. She comes with experience in education, including K-12 (Registration, Student Services) and Higher Education (Admissions and Financial Aid and Business Support), as well as corporate experience (Accounting and HR Clerk). Driven by integrity, she takes pride in providing the best customer service possible. As HR Specialist, her goal will be working to implement daily operations that will enhance the performance of HR. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies (with coursework completed at UMSL).

Shon Hall
Shon Hall has worked in Human Resources for over 20 years in the areas of Employee Relations, Performance Management, and Recruiting. Her industry expertise includes Healthcare, Financial Services, and Retail. She chose to work in Human Resources because she truly enjoys providing guidance and exploring ways to make a difference. In her role, she has the opportunity to work with a wide range of employees at different levels across the organization doing great work and that is very rewarding. She currently holds a Bachelor’s of Art in Human Resources Management and a PHR certification with plans to pursue a Masters in Human Resources Management.
