UMSL Welcomes Edward Munn Sanchez as Dean of the Pierre Laclede Honors College

On August 1st, UMSL welcomed Edward Munn Sanchez as the new Dean of the Pierre Laclede Honors College.  Dean Sanchez came to UMSL from the University of South Carolina Honors College.  Provost Kristin Sobolik gave warm words of welcome, saying, “His qualifications and background are exceptional, and we look forward to working with him to continue our strong honors tradition and to build our alumni and donor engagement.”

UMSL Welcomes Andrew Kersten, Dean of College of Arts & Sciences

On August 1st, UMSL welcomed Dr. Andrew Kersten to the position of Dean for the College of Arts & Sciences.  Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Kristin Sobolik, said of Dean Kersten, “He has excellent broad-based administrative experience including growing and nurturing interdisciplinary connections and community. He understands the importance of student success and faculty development and will be a great member of our UMSL team.”  Dr. Kersten was formerly the Dean of the College of Letters, Arts, & Social Sciences at the University of Idaho as well as a Professor of History.

New Employee Orientation 2.0!

New Employee Orientation has undergone a redesign and a relocation!

New Employee Orientation is now held in the Recreation and Wellness Center on the second and fourth Monday of the month.  In addition to UMSL History, Benefits and Policies, we have added the following:

  • tour of the Recreation and Wellness Center
  • a welcome by Beth Eckelkamp who talks about everyone’s role in creating a sense of belonging on a student-centered campus.
  • a tour the Millennium Student Center and receive their ID Card.
  • a welcome kit including Rec Center gifts, a Sodexo credit of $15, and an UMSL welcome gift.

HR also now follows up after 30-days to ensure each employee has enrolled in benefits and is adjusting to their new position.
