Advisory Board Member, Gay, Finalist for National Book Award

Above: Poet, Professor, and Natural Bridge Advisory Board Member. Ross Gay.

Natural Bridge is happy to announce the success of one of our advisory board, Ross Gay. His newest poetry collection, Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, is a finalist for the 2015 National Book Award.

Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude is a sustained meditation on that which goes away—loved ones, the seasons, the earth as we know it—that tries to find solace in the processes of the garden and the orchard. That is, this is a book that studies the wisdom of the garden and orchard, those places where all—death, sorrow, loss—is converted into what might, with patience, nourish us.

Belly is a sequence of confessions. It is a quiet yet intense journey into the deepest wells of a maturing heart. Schreiner writes movingly about the painful transience of love and loss, the forces of memory and childhood, delineated by the revision of seasons and the symbolism of flowers as death, as remembrance. Belly reconciles the permanence of family in all its anguish and grief with the consciousness and inevitability of what supremely makes us human: forgiveness.

—Rewa Zeinati

Steven Schreiner reaches his summit in this remarkably vivid, darkly truthful, and often heartbreaking book of memories, losses and longings, the work of experience.

—Edward Hirsch

Anthony Marra Reading

Natural Bridge Debut Writers Series hosted Anthony Marra with the St. Louis County Public Library on Friday October 3rd.  What a fantastic reading.  Marra delivered on all levels to the standing room only crowd.  The selections from the novel Constellation of Vital Phenomena were lovely and he also talked about how he came to write the novel and why.  It was all quite fascinating and we certainly look forward to reading more work by Marra soon.  He has a collection of short stories due out soon.
