St. Louis Public Radio spoke with Doug Swanson, coordinator for labor studies, about negotiations between General Motors and UAW production workers at the company’s Wentzville plant. The workers decided to reject the union’s tentative agreement with the auto maker. Swanson said he didn’t see autoworkers losing much leverage because their employers are having a hard time attracting workers.

Bloomberg tapped Todd Swanstrom, E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor in Community Collaboration and Public Policy, to discuss the country’s other housing crisis: aging homes falling into disrepair. With fewer discretionary funds, low-income homeowners often struggle to keep their properties up. Swanstrom noted the average bill for repairs among older homeowners in St. Louis was more than $13,000.

Elena Jenkins, a student in the College of Nursing’s DNP program, shared how her career impacts her art with the Riverfront Times. Jenkins is a labor and delivery nursing manager at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, and she imbues her striking portraits with her experiences in health care.
