Women’s Golf
The University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s golf team advanced to the finals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship before falling in match play to top-seeded Indianapolis 3.5-1.5 on Sunday at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois. The Tritons, who earned the No. 2 seed after posting a combined score of 950 through three rounds of stroke play, knocked of Drury 3.5-1.5 on Sunday morning in the semifinal round with Wilma Zanderau, Ebba Wernered and Juliette Lecomte posting match victories and Victoria Klausner halving her match. Wernered was the only Tritons golfer to pick up a win in the afternoon against the Greyhounds, beating Caroline Whallon by two strokes. Momo Kikuchi picked up a half a point. Zanderau, Lecomte, Wernered and Klausner each finished in the top 15 after 54 holes of stroke play held Friday and Saturday. Zanderau place second after posting a total of 232, six shots back of medalist Matilda Cederholm of UIndy. Lecomte and Wernered finished in a three-way tie for eighth with Drury’s Grace Stafford matching totals of 240. Klausner tied for 13th with a score of 243. UMSL will learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Monday afternoon when the field is announced. The NCAA East Regional will be held May 6-8 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.

Men’s Golf
Fifth-year senior Cyril Henault earned medalist honors at the GLVC Championship, which concluded Tuesday at Paradise Pointe Golf Club in Smithville, Missouri. Henault finished the stroke-play portion of the tournament at 3-under-par 213 to finish one stroke better than runner-up Hunter Jowers of Drury. Henault made 11 birdies during three rounds of stroke play. Teammates Zach Unnerstall and Leo Baudry joined Henault in the top 15 individuals with Unnerstall tying for ninth with a total of 219 and Baudry coming in 14th with a score of 220. They led UMSL to a 54-hole total of 879, one shot better than Missouri S&T as it secured the No. 2 seed in match play. The Miners wound up getting the upper hand on the Tritons in the semifinals, winning 5-0. Missouri S&T wound up losing to Indianapolis and its all-freshman lineup 3-2 as the Greyhounds captured their 17th conference title. Despite UMSL’s semifinal loss, it still secured an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Tritons will be playing in their 11th consecutive tournament as one of 20 teams competing in the Midwest/Central Regional May 9-11 at KickingBird Golf Course in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Baseball
UMSL took three out of four games in a weekend series against visiting Upper Iowa, scoring a combined 30 runs while sweeping a Saturday doubleheader at Maryville’s Weber Field and splitting a doubleheader Sunday at the UMSL Baseball Field. The Tritons banged out 19 hits, including home runs from Barrett Rose and Andrew Buescher, while winning the opener 21-16. Both Buescher and Rose finished with four RBI. UMSL took Game 2 9-2, tagging the Peacocks for five runs in the fifth inning, including Mitchell Green‘s two-run home run. Zach Haygood pitched six innings, yielding only two runs and strike out five to collect the victory. Green also hit an RBI double in the three-run seventh. Upper Iowa was also to cool off UMSL’s bats in Sunday’s opener, holding the Tritons to two runs and three hits while scoring 10 unanswered runs in a 10-2 romp. But UMSL bounced back in a 10-8 victory in the series finale. Barrett and Buescher both homered again in that game with Buescher’s seventh-inning grand slam putting the Tritons ahead to stay. UMSL (29-17, 20-12 GLVC) will wrap up its regular season with a four-game home series beginning Thursday against Missouri S&T.

Softball
The Tritons wrapped up their regular season by sweeping a doubleheader with Southwest Baptist on Thursday and splitting with Drury on Saturday on the UMSL Softball Field. UMSL outscored the Bearcats 11-0 in Thursday’s two games, winning the opener 8-0 in five inning and taking the second game 3-0. Ashley Borowitz held Southwest Baptist to six hits and struck out four in the Game 1 shutout, and McKenzie Lamos had three hits while Katie Schaake drove in three runs. Schaake pitched a seven-inning shutout in Game 2, striking out eight and surrendering only three hits. Lamos provided all of the offense with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Drury hammered UMSL for 14 hits in an 11-1 win on Saturday, but the Tritons bounced back to take Game 2 9-1. Schaake again picked up the win, yielding one run on seven hits while striking out five in five innings. Gwyn Miller hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Maddie Illingworth drove in two of her four runs in the third as UMSL took control. The Tritons (27-25, 14-12 GLVC) open GLVC Tournament play as the No. 5 seed and will take on fourth-seeded McKendree on Thursday morning at Eastside Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.

Women’s Tennis
UMSL split a pair of dual meets on the final weekend of the regular season, beating McKendree 5-1 at Forest Lake Tennis Club in Chesterfield, Missouri, and losing to No. 30 Indianapolis 4-0 on Saturday at the UMSL Tennis Courts. The Tritons were swept in all three doubles matches against the Bearcats but bounced back strong in singles with Anna Domingo, Maja Lietzau, Hannah Tse, Aleksandra Lopez and Anna Favaron all winning at Nos. 1-5 singles. Domingo, Lietzau, Tse and Favaron all won in straight sets while Lopez pulled out a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2) win over Iva Poleksic at No. 4 singles. UMSL did not fair as well against the Greyhounds, losing the Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6 singles matches in straight sets. The other two matches went unfinished. The Tritons earned the No. 2 seed in the East Division in the GLVC Tournament and will face West Division No. 3 seed Rockhurst on Friday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri. UMSL (11-8, 4-1 GLVC) lost a 4-3 dual against Rockhurst on March 2.

Men’s Tennis
The Tritons lost their final two dual meets of the regular season, falling to No. 20 McKendree 4-2 on Friday at Forest Lake Tennis Club and losing to No. 7 Indianapolis on Saturday at the UMSL Tennis Courts. Joshua Mackey went 2-0 on the weekend at No. 4 singles, beating McKendree’s Bendix Schroder 4-6, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (9) in a match tiebreaker and topping UIndy’s David Simeonov 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets. The Tritons other points came from Marcos Navas, who won a match tiebreaker over McKendree’s Luka Kalenic at No. 5 singles, and Juan Vigil, who won his No. 3 singles match against the Greyhounds’ Manuel Lanteri 7-6 (4), 6-4. UMSL (9-11, 2-3 GLVC), still qualified for the GLVC Tournament as the No. 4 seed in the East Division after Lewis lost to Illinois Springfield on Saturday. The Tritons will take on West Division No. 1 seed Drury on Friday morning at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri.
