The University of Missouri–St. Louis’ Pierre Laclede Honors College hosted a candlelight concert featuring the Arianna String Quartet on Oct. 1 in the Museum Room. The quartet performed a variety of movements, discussed and answered questions about the music, composers and the group.
John McGrosso (violin), Corinne Stillwell (violin), Joanna Mendoza (viola) and Kurt Baldwin (cello) are the four members of the Arianna String Quartet, a world-renowned professional string quartet. All four serve as a full-time faculty professors at UMSL, where they teach applied violin, viola and cello, and they also coach student chamber music ensembles.
The quartet maintains an extremely busy schedule, performing and teaching both in this country and abroad. Their performances have been praised for “tonal warmth, fastidious balance and expressive vitality” by the Chicago Tribune and “emotional commitment and fluent virtuosity” by Pretoria News in South Africa.
