Women’s Soccer
The University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s soccer team went 2-0 last week against Upper Iowa and Quincy, running its winning streak to four straight matches and clinching a place in next month’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. The Tritons blitzed the Peacocks 3-0 on Friday, outshooting them 18-4 in the match at the Don Dallas Soccer Field. Aubree Wallace opened the scoring in the 19th minute, Olivia Lautz made it 2-0 at halftime with a goal in the 38th minute, and Danni Cotter capped the scoring with a goal just over 10 minutes into the second half. Rylee Griffith and Alysa Wolf combined for a shutout in goal. UMSL had a tighter battle against the Hawks and the teams were tied at 1 entering the final 10 minutes of the match, but Gwen Maggard scored on a penalty kick at 80:48 to lift the Tritons to the victory. Josie Maddox also scored, delivering her fifth goal of the season in the 21st minute. Quincy tied it at 1 on Ella Wolfard’s goal in the 71st minute. Griffith made five saves to collect the victory. UMSL (10-3-2, 9-1-2 GLVC) sits in second place in the conference standings behind McKendree and will close out the regular season next weekend with road matches at Truman State on Friday and William Jewell on Sunday.
Men’s Soccer
The Tritons split home matches against Upper Iowa and Quincy, topping the Peacocks 3-2 on Friday but falling to the Hawks 1-0 on Sunday. Upper Iowa struck first in Friday’s match as Timur Nagy scored in the 26th minute, but UMSL answered with three straight goals. Benjamin Ocampo had the first two, leveling the score at 1 before halftime with a goal in the 40th minute and putting the Tritons ahead just after intermission with a goal in the 47th minute. Melo Mensah and Gibson Hunt assisted on both goals. Mensah also set up Isaac Valverde‘s goal in the 65th minute as UMSL took a 3-1 lead. Florian Dieck scored with less than five minutes remaining for Upper Iowa, but the Tritons hung on to win. Goalkeeper Jack Franklin finished with three saves in the victory. Franklin also made three saves in Sunday’s loss to Quincy, but he couldn’t turn away Leo Cann’s shot in the 13th minute in what proved to be the only goal of the match. The Tritons (5-5-5, 4-4-4 GLVC) are still clinging to postseason hopes in ninth place in the conference standings and need a strong finish as they closes out the regular season with road matches against Truman State on Friday and William Jewell on Sunday.
Volleyball
UMSL improved to 8-0 in the GLVC and ran its winning streak to 11 matches overall with a pair of four-set home victories against Missouri S&T and Maryville over the weekend at the Mark Twain Athletic Center. The Tritons beat the Miners 25-15, 14-25, 25-16, 25-17 on Friday, giving Coach Ryan Young his 300th career victory. Maggie Johnson finished with 21 kills, Alayna Santel had 15, and Iyannah Jackson added 13 along with three blocks in the win. Caitlin Bishop handed out 50 assists, and Skylar Weaver had a match-high 28 digs. Jackson had a career-high 24 kills while hitting .588 and adding four blocks to propel UMSL to a 25-17, 25-19, 20-25, 25-15 victory. Santel finished with 18 kills, and Johnson had 16. Bishop posted a match-high 64 assists, and Weaver finished with 27 digs. UMSL (18-4, 8-0 GLVC) will put its unblemished conference record on the line this week in road matches against Indianapolis on Friday and Lewis on Saturday.
Men’s Golf
The 22nd-ranked Tritons concluded the fall portion of their schedule in Hawaii by placing fourth in 10-team field at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Waikoloa Golf Resort and following that up with a third-place finish in the seven-team field at the HPU Shark Shootout on Saturday at Pearl at Kalauao. UMSL posted a combined score of 894 at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate and finished 15 shots back of co-leaders Cal State Monterey Bay and tournament host Hawaii-Hilo. Logan Mayo paced the Tritons and tied for second individually with a 54-hole total of 216, which earned him his second straight GLVC Player of the Week honor. Dani Solavera tied for 14th with a total of 222, and Benjamin Berger and Leo Baudry tied for 27th after finishing at 229. Colorado Christian’s Peyton Jones was the individual medalist with a final score of 213. Baudry claimed medalist honors with a total of 217 at the HPU Shark Shootout and led UMSL to a combined score of 912, 20 shots back of winner Hawaii-Hilo. Trigg Lindahl and Solavera each tied for 12th with scores of 227, and Berger finished tied for 22nd at 237. The Tritons are idle until Feb. 9 when they open the spring schedule in the Houston Classic in Humble, Texas.
Women’s Golf
No. 23 UMSL placed fifth out of nine teams at last week’s Intercollegiate at Nemacolin, hosted by Findlay at Mystic Rock Golf Club in Farmington, Pennsylvania. The Tritons posted a combined score of 940 to finish 25 shots behind tournament winner Grand Valley State. Hillary Currier was UMSL’s top finisher, tying for ninth with a 54-hole total of 233. Emmy Wahl and Wilma Zanderau both finished three shots back in a tie for 16th. Mayan Covarrubias finished with a score of 238, and Brooke Inchiostro and Hope Williams carded scores of 247 and 251, respectively. North Georgia’s Cora Mount was the individual medalist with a total of 225 and won by three shots over Indianapolis golfer Paige Giovenco. The Tritons also sent three golfers to compete as individuals in last week’s McKendree Bearcat Dual Gender at Far Oaks Golf Course in Caseyville, Illinois. Josephin Hansson shot 241 to tie for 24th, and Alaina Ervin and Abigail Ante tied for 28th and 48th, respectively. UMSL will be off the rest of the fall and will kick off the spring schedule Feb. 16 at the Southern Invite at Cypresswood Golf Course in Spring, Texas.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
Will Kaempfe earned All-GLVC honors at the 2025 GLVC Championship on Saturday after placing seventh in the men’s 8-kilometer race in Romeoville, Illinois. He covered the Lewis Cross Country Course in a personal-best time of 24 minutes, 29.76 seconds, just over a minute back of individual champion Evan Horgan of Lewis. Kaempfe’s strong finish helped UMSL place eighth in the team competition with a total of 216 points. The Flyers won the event with 41 points. Clement Mayo was the Tritons’ second-best finisher, coming in 44th with a time of 25:57.84, and Luke Stevenson was 50th in 26:11.87. Devon Fanning was one spot behind Stevenson and cross the finish line in 26:16. Aaron Guss and Armando Montoya were 64th and 73rd, respectively. UMSL’s women’s team finished 12th in the team standings. Bridget Ragan led the way with a 60th-place individual showing, finishing the 6-kilometer race in 25:06.63. Isabella Massaro was 65th in 25.47.52. Hannah Richardson was finished 72nd. The Tritons will next compete at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Nov. 8 at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming
UMSL’s swimming teams both opened their home schedules with dual meet victories over William Jewell on Saturday at the Mark Twain Athletic Center. The women’s team topped the Cardinals 135-67 while the men rallied for a 104-101 victory. Libby Smith and Justice Beard each had two wins for the women’s team. Smith won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11 minutes, 2.21 seconds and also took first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:44.35. Beard, meanwhile, won the 200 free in 1:53.98 and took first in the 500 free in 5:01. 53. Audrey Lantz added a win in the 50 free, and Ella Lantz edged teammate Aeri La by less than 1/2 a second in the 200-yard backstroke. UMSL also won the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relay. On the men’s side, Maxwell Wetteland won the 100 freestyle in 48.56, 0.18 seconds better than teammate Aaron Wicklund. Mikael Larsson was first in the 200 backstroke in 1:54.68. Lathan Parks edged teammate Gabriel Wells and finished first in the 50 free in 21.49 seconds. The UMSL men won the 200 medley relay in 1:35.05. The Tritons trailed by 10 points heading into the 400 free relay but swept the top two spots and moved ahead in the dual. UMSL will be back in the pool on Friday when it plays host to Rockhurst at the UMSL Swimming Pool.
