Volleyball
The University of Missouri–St. Louis volleyball continued its torrid play by sweeping McKendree 25-16, 25-12, 25-9 in its only match of the week Friday evening at the Mark Twain Athletic Center. The Tritons outhit the Bearcats .398-.023. Maggie Johnson and Alayna Santel each had a team-high nine kills, and setter Caitlin Bishop spread the ball around as Hannah Copeland and Addison Voorhees each had seven kills, and Bridget Cassady had five. Bishop finished with 32 assists. Santel also had a team-high 11 digs. Coach Ryan Young‘s team improved to 11-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings. UMSL (21-4) hasn’t lost since Sept. 20 and will wrap up the regular season at home this week with matches against William Jewell on Friday and Rockhurst on Saturday. Rockhurst is a game back of the Tritons, in second place in the GLVC standings.

Women’s Soccer
The top-seeded Tritons lost 1-0 against No. 8 seed Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Don Dallas Field. Adriana Benassi snapped a scoreless tie in the 72nd minute when she took a pass from goalkeeper Anastasia Barcom on the left wing, took on three UMSL defenders and fired a shot from the top of the box into the top right corner of the net. Goalkeeper Rylee Griffith got hand on the shot but couldn’t keep it from going into the goal. The Tritons had several chances to pull even, including a shot from Karly Kinzinger that went off the crossbar the 88th minute, but were unable to find the net. Barcom made five saves to shut out UMSL for only the fourth time this season and first since 1-0 loss to Illinois Springfield on Oct. 12. The Tritons (12-4-2) must wait until the Nov. 17 selection show to learn if they’ll receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming
UMSL’s swimming teams swept their dual meet against Truman State with the men winning 197-52 and the women winning 174-85 on Saturday at Pershing Natatorium in Kirksville, Missouri. The men had the first-place finisher in all 14 events. Mikael Larson led the way with victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races and the 400-yard individual medley. He posted a winning IM time of 4 minutes, 12.35 seconds. Kaleb Suitor won both the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly in 51.54 and 49.77, respectively. Aaron Wicklund won both the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle, the latter with a winning time of 47.41 seconds. Mattia Nardi won the 200 fly in 1:52.86, Lathan Parks was first in the 50 free in 21.39 seconds, and Maxwell Wetteland edged Truman’s Jacob Wolf by 0.06 seconds in the 200 backstroke with a winning time of 1:54.62. Dylan Bonnett won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.14, Carson Ring was first in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:08.34, and UMSL’s team swept the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard free relay. The women’s team, meanwhile, won 11 of 14 events in its dual. Justice Beard won the 1,650 freestyle in 16:43.73, the 200 butterfly in 2:09.29 and the 500 freestyle in 5:03.53. Romina Itzkovich was first in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke with times of 53.47 and 58.22, respectively. Aeri Li won the 200 freestyle, Uxue Ortiz de Pinedo was first in the 200 breaststroke, Audrey Lantz won the 100 butterfly, and Stella Garrison touched first in the 400 IM. The Tritons also won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. UMSL will next compete in the University of Phoenix Fall Classic Nov. 21-23 at the Ratner Athletic Center in Chicago.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
The Tritons wrapped up their season at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Saturday. Will Kaempfe led the men’s team by finishing 46th with a time of 32 minutes, 0.60 seconds on the 10-kilometer course at Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Clement Mayo and Luke Stevenson were next two UMSL finishers, posting times of 33:12 and 33:43.8, respectively. Devon Fanning finished in 34:19.6 to place 150th individually. The Tritons, collectively, finished 22nd in the 29-team field. The women’s team didn’t post a team score, but Bridget Ragan led UMSL’s runners with a time of 24:48.6 on the 6-kilometer course. Bella Massaro and Hannah Richardson finished in 26:10.4 and 26:14.4, respectively.
