It’s the University of Missouri–St. Louis’ Month of Community Giving, an annual campus giving campaign that benefits the causes of the United Way of Greater St. Louis and the Community Health Charities of Kansas and Missouri. Combined, they are community partners to more than 250 nonprofit organizations.

Bob Bone remains men’s basketball leading scorer 36 years later
His name still dominates the record books, and his numbers remain untouched more than three decades later. Bob Bone has cemented his name within the University of Missouri–St. Louis community since his time as a baseball and basketball All-American, where he starred for the UMSL Rivermen from 1973-77. His legendary reputation has remained intact throughout the years in the St. Louis area, as has his presence. Now the athletic director at Clayton (Mo.) High School, Bone has never let his time and experiences at UMSL escape his memory as a player, coach or professional.

Learn from experts, enhance skills with UMSL’s Write Stuff Certificate Program
The College of Arts and Sciences and School of Professional & Continuing Studies at the University of Missouri–St. Louis announced its Write Stuff Certificate Program for the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Courses and seminars will begin Sept. 10 and continue through June. The program aims to improve participants’ writing skills as well as their knowledge of the business of writing.

As UMSL celebrates its 50th anniversary throughout 2013 with the Jubilee, it seems fitting to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the only NCAA Division II National Championship the university has won in its first half century. The men of the 1973 Rivermen soccer team are to thank, bringing home the championship trophy after blanking The University of California–Fullerton with a score of 3-0 on Dec. 8 in Springfield, Mass.

In May, Teresa Bandrowsky earned her PhD in chemistry from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. In August, she begins her new job as a research and development chemist at Jost Chemical Company.

Rochelle Henderson, UMSL alumna and director of health services research at Express Scripts, explains the research area in the Express Scripts Technology and Innovation Center in Berkeley, Mo. The building, located just north of UMSL, houses the company’s pharmacy and distribution center. Henderson, who earned a doctoral degree in political science from UMSL in 2010, led a tour of the facility July 26, which was attended by several members of the UMSL community. Study abroad can prove to be one of the most gratifying, adventurous, challenging and extraordinary opportunities that you undertake in life. It certainly has been for me. I sought opportunity this past summer for six weeks studying and traveling across Ireland as a participant in the Irish Studies Summer School at the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Kenny Truong appears to have cooked up a successful business model with his restaurant, The Rice House. The concept came together after Truong combined the business knowledge he gained from his University of Missouri–St. Louis degree with his parents’ authentic Chinese recipes, according to a recent Florissant (Mo.)
