The University of Missouri-St. Louis has been selected to participate in the “Freedom Without Walls” celebration sponsored by the German Embassy in Washington. The celebration will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
UMSL was chosen over several other U.S. universities to participate, and was the only university in Missouri selected. “Freedom Without Walls” will be held on 30 U.S. college campuses in the fall, and the commemoration will include a week of events here Nov. 8 through Nov. 15. Activities will include a display replica of the wall, exhibits, guest speakers, concerts, workshops, film series and celebration party. “We are pleased and truly honored to have been chosen as partners for this important commemoration,” said Larry Marsh, coordinator of the German Culture Center at UMSL. “The fall of the Berlin Wall on Nov. 9, 1989, not only freed millions of Berliners and other East Germans, it also served as a beacon of hope and an inspiration for democratic movements throughout the world.” (More information)
