The Great Lakes Valley Conference has released its list of academic all-conference selections for the 2009-10 academic year, and the University of Missouri–St. Louis had 59 student-athletes receive recognition for their academic accomplishments.

Ten of UMSL’s 11 sports were represented on the list with women’s basketball accounting for the most with 11 student-athletes. That number also tied Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo., for the most in that sport. Women’s soccer and softball followed by accounting for eight student-athletes each.

A total of 31 student-athletes were repeat recipients for this award, having been named at least once before during their career, including graduating seniors Caitlin Farrow (women’s soccer), Lacey Shalenko (women’s basketball), Kristi White (women’s basketball), Andy Schaul (men’s soccer), Ryan South (men’s soccer), Ryan Vines (men’s soccer), Justin Rodgers (baseball), Katie Bartlett (softball), Meaghan Bauer (softball), Carly Maddock (softball) and Sarah Eisnaugle (volleyball). Those students earned academic all-conference honors in each of their years at UMSL.

To be nominated for the Academic All-GLVC team, student-athletes must have a) completed at least two semesters at their institution and have a cumulative GPA that meets the Academic All-American standard (3.30) or have attained a GPA of least 3.40 in each of the preceding two semesters or b) have not completed two semesters and attained a GPA of 3.40 or higher.

In all, a record 1,324 student-athletes received Academic All-GLVC honors with the 88.3 awards per institution marking the second-highest awards total in league history. There were 91.8 honorees per institution during the 2007-08 academic year.
