The Arianna String Quartet, the university’s resident quartet, were featured Oct. 19 in The Rock Island Argus (Moline, Ill.) article about the quartet’s residency at Augustana College in Rock Island.

Dr. Edward S. Bennett, associate professor of optometry, wrote a “GP Annual Report 2011” article that ran in the October issue of Contact Lens Spectrum.

Alan Byrd, director of admissions, was mentioned Oct. 5 in a FloValley News article about being a North County Inc. 30 Leaders in their 30s honoree.

John Cattanach, managing director of the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center, was quoted Oct. 6 in a Riverfront Times article about the effects of the reopened Peabody Opera House (nee Kiel Opera House) on other St. Louis-area performance venues.

Weslie Gaff, a student and member of the volleyball team, was quoted Oct. 16 in an article that ran in The Times in Ottawa, Ill., about her milestone of surpassing 1,000 kills. She is one of only six UMSL athletes to reach the milestone.

David Kimball, associate professor of political science, was quoted Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 in an Associated Press article on Sen. Claire McCaskill not appearing at a pair of fundraisers for President Barack Obama in St. Louis. The article appeared on 12 news websites in seven states.

J. Martin Rochester, professor of political science, wrote “Computers in the classroom: the disconnect between K-12 and higher education,” a guest blog that ran Oct. 4 on the website Educationgadfly.net.

Ebony Smith, project coordinator in nursing, was mentioned Oct. 5 in a FloValley News article about being a North County Inc. 30 Leaders in their 30s honoree.

Todd Swanstrom, professor of political science, was quoted Oct. 2 in a St. Louis Beacon article about an increase in people reporting they’re multiracial in the census.

Kenneth Thomas, associate professor of political science, conducted research on tax incentives for private businesses, which was referenced Oct. 13 in an editorial on the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators that ran in the Daily Press in Newport News, Va.

Kristy Tucciarone, assistant teaching professor of media studies, was mentioned Oct. 5 in a FloValley News article about being a North County Inc. 30 Leaders in their 30s honoree.
