Last February, Brian Owens was feeling frustrated with his music career and like so many musicians do, he put his thoughts to paper.

A year later, those thoughts have been transformed into his new single – “I Just Want to Feel Alright.” It’s on his new CD “Moods and Messages,” which comes out this summer.

“I wasn’t looking to be OK. I wasn’t looking to have everything solved. I just wanted to feel alright,” said Owens, a University of Missouri–St. Louis alumnus, on St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 FM.

He recently discussed his new album on “Cityscape,” a program on St. Louis Public Radio. With his music career gaining traction, Owens is clearly feeling better than just alright these days.

“It’s been a really busy and blessed year,” he said on “Cityscape.”

Owens, who earned his bachelors of music in 2008 from UMSL, made a splash on the music scene as a member of Sidewinder, a band that is part of the 571st Air Force Band, 131st Bomb Wing, Air National Guard. In September, the band appeared on the “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Owens also used his vocal talents during Game 1 of the 2011 World Series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

UM St. Louis magazine, the predecessor of UMSL Magazine, profiled Owens in its spring 2007 issue. Visit http://issuu.com/umsl/docs/magazine_spring_2007 to read the cover story.
