University of Missouri–St. Louis senior pitcher Kyle Renaud (pictured) has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Renaud is the third UMSL hurler to earn a GLVC Pitcher of the Week honor in the last six weeks and the second straight as teammate Zach Standefer garnered the accolade last week. Renaud, who was recognized with the same award three weeks ago on March 11, played a role in all three UMSL wins this weekend over Missouri University of Science & Technology (Rolla).
He picked up two wins and one save, all in relief, to help give the UMSL Tritons a 3-1 series win over the Miners. Renaud got the win in the 2-1 series opener on Friday, striking out five batters in two innings of work. He then picked up a save in a 1-0 decision in the third game after one-thirds of an inning before getting the win in two and two-thirds of an inning in UMSL’s 5-3 extra-inning victory in the series finale. In that game, he allowed the first three S&T batters to reach base in the bottom of the 11th, but struck out the next three to preserve the win. On the week, Renaud totaled five innings on the mound, allowing just two hits and no runs while registering eight strikeouts.
Renaud is majoring in media studies at UMSL.
UMSL (9-9, 4-4 GLVC) will travel to Maryville University (Town and County, Mo.) in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on April 2 and will host Drury University (Springfield, Mo.) April 6 and April 7 in a four-game series.
