Senior forward Alex Majewski scored a career-best 17 points to lead the UMSL men’s basketball team to a 91-74 victory at Missouri S&T. The win came two days after the Tritons narrowly missed upsetting No. 15 Drury in a 69-68 road loss in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.

Men’s Basketball
UMSL opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 1-1 record last weekend. The Tritons rebounded from Thursday’s 69-68 loss at No. 15 Drury with a 91-74 win at Missouri S&T on Saturday. Junior Elijah Watson averaged 12 points, four assists and 3.5 assists, while junior D.J. White added 11.5 points and five rebounds per game. UMSL (5-4, 1-1 GLVC) will host Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday before traveling to Maryville on Saturday in conference play.

Women’s Basketball
The Triton women also went 1-1 last weekend to open league play. UMSL bounced back from a 72-58 loss at No. 14 Drury on Thursday night to post a 68-65 win at Missouri S&T on Saturday. The Tritons rallied from a 17-point deficit in the win, outscoring the Miners 27-10 in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Laura Szorenyi averaged 20 points, while senior Robneisha Lee averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three steals. UMSL (4-3, 1-1 GLVC) will play three games this weekend, including two exhibitions – at UMKC on Wednesday and at SIUE on Sunday. The Tritons also play host to Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The UMSL swimming teams combined to break 15 school records at last weekend’s Miami (Ohio) Invitational, with the women accounting for 10 of those. The men broke five school records and had three top-five finishes, including two from Mike Trefler. He broke a 25-year-old record in the 200-yard breaststroke twice (prelims and finals) and came up .01 short of an NCAA B-cut time to finish fifth in 2:01.86. He also placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. UMSL will be idle until Jan. 13 and 14 when the Tritons host their own invitational.
