UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

The softball team finished runner-up at its conference tournament and earned its sixth-straight bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The UMSL women’s softball team earned its sixth straight NCAA Tournament bid. The Tritons, a No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region, travel to Springfield, Illinois, this week to play in the double-elimination, sub-regional round. UMSL begins NCAA play against No. 3 seed McKendree on Thursday.

Softball
UMSL earned a runner-up finish last weekend at the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. The Tritons advanced to the title game for the sixth straight year but dropped a 4-2 decision to Southern Indiana. Senior Jennah Perryman recorded six hits in five games, including three home runs and a double, and finished with four RBI and six runs scored. Junior Carly Kingery was 3-2 in the circle with a 1.40 ERA and had two shutouts. UMSL (33-22) has earned a bid to its sixth straight NCAA Tournament. The Tritons are the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region and this weekend will travel to Springfield, Illinois, for one of two sub-regionals. UMSL opens NCAA play Thursday against No. 3 seed McKendree.

Baseball
The Tritons saw their season come to an end last weekend in a four-game series split against Rockhurst, with UMSL winning the final two games on Saturday. Senior Jim Brandt tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout in his final collegiate game, while tying a career high with eight strikeouts in a 4-0 victory. Senior Cole McDonald went 5 for 8 at the plate in the two wins while senior Jake Morsch had six hits in the four games. UMSL finishes with a 21-29 record.
