Ben-Hur Kasprzak beat teammate Karl Heinrichs in the final to win the A Singles flight at the season-opening University of Illinois Springfield Tournament.

Men’s Tennis
Senior Ben-Hur Kasprzak led UMSL in its fall opener at the University of Illinois Springfield Tournament by winning the A Singles flight. He defeated teammate Karl Heinrichs 6-1, 6-0 in the title match to finish 4-0 in singles on the weekend. UMSL returns to the courts Sept. 28-30 at the ITA Midwest Regional.

Women’s Tennis
Senior Marina Prediger won the A Singles flight at the UIS Tournament last weekend to lead the Tritons as they opened the fall portion of their 2019-20 schedule. Prediger defeated UIS’s Ashley Long 6-4, 6-4 to finish 4-0 on the weekend in singles. Prediger and junior Leticia Lunge also advanced to the A Doubles flight final along with teammates sophomore Odette Beagrie and freshman Hannah Burth, but that match was not played out. UMSL returns to the courts Friday through Sunday at the ITA Midwest Regional.

Volleyball
The Tritons are off to their best start in program history at 8-0 with another four victories last weekend at the Warrior Invitational, hosted by Wayne State. UMSL earned 3-0 wins over Southern Indiana, Malone and Ursuline and posted a 3-1 victory over the host school. Senior Selena Nolte averaged 4.15 kills per set and hit .352, while junior Kaileen Herman averaged 12.0 assists, 3.00 digs and 1.00 kills per set. Nolte, senior Kylie Rudsinski and sophomore Charlotte Richards were all named to the all-tournament team. The Tritons return to the court Friday and Saturday with four matches at the Union University Classic in Jackson, Tennessee.

Men’s Soccer
UMSL went 1-1 last week, picking up a 3-0 victory at Upper Iowa before suffering a 3-2 loss at Lindenwood in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener. In the win, sophomore Garrett Bass had two goals as the Tritons netted all three tallies in the opening 16:28. In the loss, UMSL rallied from a 2-0 deficit but saw the host Lions score the game-winner with less than 90 seconds to play. The Tritons (2-2, 0-1 GLVC) welcome Lewis on Friday in its home opener and will host Illinois Springfield on Sunday.

Women’s Soccer
A goal from redshirt junior Sarah Lyon 6:03 into the game lifted UMSL to a 1-0 win at Lindenwood in Sunday’s GLVC opener. The Tritons were outshot 14-5 but junior Amber Hayes made fives saves between the posts. UMSL (1-2, 1-0 GLVC) will host Lewis on Friday in the home opener before welcoming Illinois Springfield on Sunday.

Women’s Golf
Senior Emma Thorngren tied for fourth place individually at the UIndy Invitational last Monday and Tuesday as UMSL opened its 2019-20 season. Thorngren posted a 54-hole score of 218 (73-69-76) for her 27th career top-10 finish. As a team, the Tritons tied for 12th place. UMSL returns to the links September 23-24 at the DBU Women’s Classic, hosted by Dallas Baptist.
