University of Missouri–St. Louis students Michael Gillespie, a graduate student studying ecology, and Ludivine Renaud, a sophomore biology major, participate in the Honeysuckle Hack at the Bellerive Bird Sanctuary on Oct. 16. During the event, which was held in partnership between UMSL’s Pierre Laclede Honors College, Department of Biology and Environmental Adventure Organization, students cut back invasive bush honeysuckle and dabbed a chemical application to prevent the plant from returning in the spring. Students have been working for the past few years to remove the bush honeysuckle from the sanctuary and their progress is very apparent.
