"Life of Pi" by Jen McKnight, assistant professor of art at UMSL, will be on display Nov. 11 to Jan. 3 in the Bonsack Gallery at John Burroughs School in Ladue, Mo.
Graphic design artist Jen McKnight has devoted her latest collection of prints to literacy and listening. “Close Attendance: Works by Jen McKnight,” an exhibit of the silkscreen and print work by the assistant professor of art at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, will be on display in the Bonsack Gallery Friday (Nov. 11) through Jan. 3. A public reception hosted by the artist will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the gallery.
“I have always loved words, and their complex histories of meaning,” McKnight said. “I have a public career as a designer, educator and author; few know I am also dyslexic and reading presents challenges. This body of work is a song to adaptation. It explores alternative ways to build a lifetime of learning when faced with both physical and temporal limitations.”
McKnight’s work has been recognized in publications such as Print Magazine, Output and “Becoming a Graphic Designer: A Guide to Careers in Design.” Her poster work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and was included in the 2010 Golden Bee International Poster Biennial in Moscow.
The Bonsack Gallery is a nonprofit educational gallery on the campus of John Burroughs School, 755 S. Price Road in Ladue, Mo. Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays.
