Jim Widner, director of jazz studies at the University of Missouri­–St. Louis, and jazz musician and band leader Gordon Goodwin discussed the 2010 Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival last week on “Cityscape” on St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU. Above is an excerpt of the interview.

The festival will feature performances by Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, Conrad Herwig’s Latin Side All-Star Band and the Widner-led UMSL Jazz Ensemble. It takes place April 15 through 17 at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.

Widner created the festival, now in its seventh year. In addition to the professional jazz musician performances Friday and Saturday night, more than 750 students from 44 groups at 32 schools will participate in clinics and performances during the day Thursday through Saturday.
