Senior guard Troy Long of the University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s basketball team and head coach Steve Tappmeyer have been honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Long earned Second Team All-Midwest Region honors, while Tappmeyer was recognized as Midwest District Co-Coach of the Year.

Long, a First Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection, led the UMSL Tritons in scoring and assists with 16.6 points and 3.1 assists per game. Additionally, he netted a UMSL single season record 84 three-pointers, while shooting 42.6 percent beyond the arc – the second-best single season figure in program history.

In GLVC-only games, Long tied for second in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game. He led the conference with 60 three-pointers made and was also among the top 10 in three-point field goal percentage (third at .472), assist-turnover ratio (third at 2.22) and steals (tied for ninth at 1.56 spg).

Tappmeyer shares Coach of the Year honors with Bellarmine University’s (Louisville, Ky.) Scott Davenport. The duo also shared the same honor by the GLVC.

Tappmeyer guided the Tritons to a 19-9 overall record, including a 13-5 GLVC mark, which was good for the league’s outright West Division title. Under his direction, UMSL posted its best season since the 1990-91 squad went 22-6.

In all, 89 student-athletes from eight districts were honored Friday and are now eligible for the NABC Coaches’ Division II All-America teams, which will be selected by the NABC.
