EDITOR’S NOTE: UMSL won its ninth straight after beating the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday before ending the streak in the second game of the double header. The Tritons took three of four on the weekend making its record 14-2 over the team’s last 16 games.

The University of Missouri–St. Louis baseball team extended its win streak to eight games with a sweep at Maryville University (Town and County, Mo.) Wednesday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The UMSL Tritons won by scores of 13-4 and 3-2.

The team’s record over the last 12 games is 11-1, pushing its win total to 19. That’s the most the Tritons have won in a season since the 2008 team recorded 18 victories.

According to a story on KSDK (Channel 5) earlier this week, “The Tritons believe they are on track to be back to their former days of glory, and they owe the success to their relentless effort on the diamond.”

The Tritons return to action with a four-game series at the University of Illinois Springfield this weekend. First pitch is at noon tomorrow (April 21).

In addition to the team looking to extend its winning streak this weekend, Jim Brady is looking to earn his 700th victory as the baseball team’s head coach. The team has 698 wins under Brady’s leadership.
