Some potential students came from far away with one or two parents in tow. Others came alone. A few grandparents tagged along, and some students brought their best friends. More than 400 people, 165 of them potential students, filled the Millennium Student Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis Saturday for UMSL Day. The best news came at the end of the day when 100 applications were counted. That’s a record number of applicants for UMSL Day, according to Drew Griffin, associate director of admissions.
The day proved to be a huge UMSL effort with 150 faculty, staff and student workers pitching in. Louie the Triton, cheerleaders, staff and students were on hand to welcome everyone, offer advice and directions. Chancellor Tom George welcomed the crowd who gathered in the MSC. Faculty staffed information tables and offered insight on UMSL’s many degree programs. Deans and advisers offered detailed information on colleges and courses. The offices for financial aid, admissions, career services and the UMSL Bookstore stayed busy all day.
Door prizes were given away including tickets to the Sara Bareilles concert at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center. Sean Fieser, a senior at Rockwood Summit High School, was the big winner of the UMSL Day giveaway of an i-Pad.
