The music of Louis Armstrong will highlight UMSL Night at the Symphony June 9 at Powell Hall in St. Louis. Proceeds will benefit the Chancellor Marguerite Ross Barnett Scholarship at UMSL.

The University of Missouri–St. Louis Alumni Association has invited the UMSL community to hear a musical showcase of the Big Easy through a tribute to Louis Armstrong. “Sounds of New Orleans: A Tribute to Louis Armstrong” will begin at 7:30 p.m. June 9 at Powell Hall in St. Louis. The concert is UMSL Night at the Symphony.

From “St. Louis Blues” and “Sweet Georgia Brown” to “What a Wonderful World” and “When the Saints Go Marching In,” virtuoso trumpeter and singer Byron Stripling will lead a swinging evening of the sounds that made the Crescent City famous. Ward Stare will serve as conductor.

Tickets to the concert and a dessert reception are $40. Proceeds will benefit the Chancellor Marguerite Ross Barnett Scholarship at UMSL. The UMSL Alumni Association African American Alumni Chapter sponsored the reception.
