Summer IT program on TV; Scholar honored

The weeklong Xtreme IT summer academy at the University of Missouri-St. Louis was featured Friday in a story by KMOV(Channel 4). The program exposes high school students to the information systems profession by providing insight into a range of applications. Students tour UMSL and the St. Louis-area offices ofIBMMicrosoftAmerenUE andExpress Scripts.

Students also get the opportunity to talk with university faculty and business professionals. The program culminates with students creating individual Web pages. “There will always be computers and jobs in IT,” said Vicki Sauter (pictured), professor of information systems at UMSL and faculty coordinator of Xtreme IT. “We hope to show students that it can be fun and that computers, programming and software design can be stimulating and fulfilling career choices.” In April, Scottradepresented Sauter with its Gateway to Innovation Community Outreach Award for creating and coordinating Xtreme IT and its sister program, Imagine IT.
