Jennifer Siciliani (at left), a teaching professor and director of undergraduate education in the Department of Psychological Sciences, talks with political science major Audrey Seger about a study abroad program she expects to lead next summer to Ikaria, Greece, during last Wednesday’s Study Abroad Fair, hosted by UMSL Global.
Siciliani first led the immersive program to Ikaria earlier this year. The serene island in the Aegean Sea is known for its vibrant community spirit, relaxed pace of life and Mediterranean diet. Students had a chance to examine aging, mental health and community through the lens of Ikaria’s people. Senior psychology major Emily Acre (red shirt) was also on hand at the Study Abroad Fair to talk about the experience she had in the program this summer.
The Study Abroad Fair gave students a chance to explore and gain more information about the more than 50 study abroad opportunities available to them as they look to expand their worldview and deepen their academic experience. More than 100 students checked in at the fair on Triton Connect.
A similar number of students take part in study abroad programs each year with the majority enrolling in short-term faculty-led programs, such as the one Siciliani led over the summer. Currently, applications are open for three short-term faculty-led programs taking place during Winter Intersession 2027 in Japan, Costa Rica, and Morocco. Students can also take part in semester exchange programs located in more than 40 different countries.
