Katie Bartlett

Katie Bartlett, a senior catcher for the University of Missouri–St. Louis softball team, has been named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Softball College Division’s second team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Bartlett, a pre-med biology major with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average, is the ninth overall student-athlete in UMSL history to garner Academic All-America honors and is just the second softball student-athlete to earn the honor. Lisa Loftus was tabbed to the first team in 1984.

Bartlett finished her senior campaign with a .336 batting average and 45 hits, including 11 home runs and six doubles. Bartlett’s 11 home runs set a new UMSL single season record and ranked third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. She also tallied 36 RBIs and scored 28 runs.

Bartlett, who was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week during the first week of the season, helped UMSL to an overall record of 26-20 and its third-straight GLVC Tournament berth. The Tritons finished the Great Lakes Valley Conference season with a 15-11 record.

Bartlett, of Des Moines, Iowa, and a Roosevelt High School alumna, is also at three-time Academic All-GLVC honoree and earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII first team honors earlier this month.

She was the only GLVC softball student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
