Why are foreclosures increasing in the St. Louis area? What can the states, counties and municipalities do in response to foreclosures? Is loan modification helping to remedy the situation?

Todd Swanstrom, the E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor of Community Collaboration and Public Policy Administration at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, will moderate “Foreclosures – Harming Families & Communities,” Ha St. Louis County Municipal League panel discussion that will tackle these questions and more. Panelists will include Douglas Neff, of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; Jim Holtzman, director of the St. Louis County Office of Community Development; Linda Ingram, director of intervention services at St. Louis-based nonprofit Beyond Housing; and Mike Duncan, information technology manager for St. Louis County.

The panel discussion will be from 4 to 6 p.m. June 9 in 72 J.C. Penney Conference Center at UMSL, One University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121). The event is free and open to the public.
