Ron Gossen

Ron Gossen has been named senior associate vice chancellor for marketing and communications at University of Missouri–St. Louis. As the university’s chief marketing officer, Gossen will oversee UMSL’s marketing, public relations and strategic communications division. He will start July 19.

“We are delighted to bring Ron to UMSL,” said Martin Leifeld, vice chancellor for advancement at UMSL. “He has the breadth and depth of experience to help us further strengthen our brand as a premium public research university.”

The new position was developed after a recommendation by SimpsonScarborough, a team of nationally-known market research strategists hired by the university.

“UMSL is clearly the engine that propels the region’s successes. It is an incredibly vibrant institution,” Gossen said. “I look forward to guiding the marketing and communications program to magnify those successes and further the university’s mission.”

Gossen has more than 25 years of experience in marketing and communications. Most recently, he served as vice president for marketing at Commerce Trust Company in St. Louis.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in business administration from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Gossen has taught marketing, management and communications at universities in Texas and Missouri.

Accredited in public relations and certified in project management, he has received numerous advertising, public relations and marketing awards, including the Texas Star Award as that state’s outstanding public relations practitioner. He has also published extensively on branding, community relations and public relations.
