To become a global healthcare provider, many businesses in the industry are learning it takes more than business sense to succeed, knowledge of humanity is critical.

Susan L. Lang, senior vice president and chief supply chain officer at Express Scripts, will speak on “Global Healthcare Leadership: The Merger of Business and Anthropology” at 5:30 p.m. March 15 in the E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee Theater at Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

Lang, who joined the company in 2006, will provide insight into global healthcare issues. According to Lang, “Understanding the cultural implications of proposed solutions is critical. This is the point at which anthropology and business merge, at the nexus between culture, creativity and market opportunity. The merger leverages key assets of both disciplines to create a new value proposition for cultural entrepreneurs who have the vision and commitment to act.”

The lecture is part of the UMSL Executive Leadership Consortium’s Distinguished Speaker Series, which features a leader of notable achievement to discuss current business topics. A reception will follow the lecture at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, and sponsored by UMSL’s Executive Leadership Consortium, Office of Alumni Relations, College of Business Administration, the E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professorship for Development Women Entrepreneurs and the Gender Studies Program.
