The Bachmann Book Series at UMSL will feature Frances Hesselbein and Becky James-Hatter Nov. 8 in the Century Rooms at the Millennium Student Center.

Leadership is a role many play, but only a few excel. Finding the right mix of leading while learning is the focus of the annual Bachmann Book Series at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

Frances Hesselbein, author of “My Life in Leadership: The Journey and Lessons Learned Along the Way,” and Becky James-Hatter, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, will discuss their experience in leadership at 3 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Century Rooms at the Millennium Student Center at UMSL. John Bachmann, a senior partner at Edward Jones, will lead the discussion.

Hesselbein is an expert in the field of contemporary leadership development. She’s the president and chief executive officer of the Leader to Leader Institute. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. She serves as a board member for several nonprofit and corporate boards, and has written numerous articles and books on effective leadership.

James-Hatter has served for the past 17 years as the president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. Under her leadership, the agency has grown from serving 300 children annually to serving approximately 2,800 children annually. It’s the largest youth mentoring organization in Missouri and the ninth largest Big Brothers Big Sisters of America affiliate, out of 370.

The Bachmann Book Series is sponsored by UMSL’s College of Business Administration and Executive Leadership Consortium.

A book signing and reception will follow the program. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required. Call 314-516-4749 to RSVP or for more information.
