Joseph Carroll, professor of English, wrote a letter to the editor titled “Harming the cultural climate,” which ran June 7 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Carroll’s letter also ran June 6 in the Columbia Missourian under the headline “Closing of press product of the wrong model for university.”

Niyi Coker, professor of theatre, was featured in “A drive for direction: Director, professor and filmmaker Adeniyi Coker hits the Madrid International Film Festival,” an article in the June issue of St. Louis Magazine.

Curt Coonrod, vice provost for student affairs, was quoted June 14 in The St. Louis American article “UMSL’s Bridge Program receives national award.”

John Dalton, director of the MFA in Creative Writing program, wrote the book “The Inverted Forest,” which was featured June 25 in the KMOX (1120 AM) online article “Books by St. Louis authors to read this summer.”

Tim Eby, director and general manager of St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 FM, was quoted June 20 in the West End Word (St. Louis) article “Welcoming new tenant to Grand Center.”

Thomas Eyssell, professor of finance, was quoted June 18 in The Dallas Morning News article “Seniors need to check their credit more often.”

Dr. Aaron Franzel, assistant clinical professor of optometry, was quoted in the June EyeCare Professional Magazine article “No kidding: The top 5 concerns ECPs have when seeing kids and how to handle them.”

Chancellor Tom George was quoted June 10 in the University City (Mo.) Patch article “Students to work with scientists during STARS program.” George was quoted June 8 in the Quincy (Ill.) Herald-Whig article “GLVC votes to add Truman State to league.” The article also appeared in Missouri Sports Magazine and on the website for KTVO (Channel 3) in Kirksville, Mo. He was quoted June 27 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Curators approve new student recreation facility for UMSL.”

Tony Georges, director of financial aid, was quoted June 6 in the St. Louis Beacon article “Student loans provide tough lesson in economics.”

Erika Gibb, associate professor of physics and astronomy, was interviewed for the June 4 St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 FM story “Transit of Venus: Twice-in-a-lifetime phenomenon visible Tuesday over St. Louis.” Gibb was quoted June 5 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Venus travels rare path today.” She was quoted June 5 in the NPR story “Rare transit of Venus ‘A beautiful event’.” Gibb was quoted June 5 in the NOCO article “Watch the Venus transit at UMSL’s observatory.”

Alumnus Mark Holland, BM 1985, was featured June 14 in the Maryland Heights (Mo.) Patch article “A ‘musical smoothie’ hits Creve Coeur Park in July.”

Ruth Iyob, associate professor of political science, was interviewed for the June 24 South African Broadcasting Corporation segment “Religious ideas and institutions transitions to democracy in Africa.”

David Kimball, associate professor of political science, was quoted June 12 in the St. Louis Beacon article “It’s the economy, stupid. Or is it?” Kimball was quoted June 24 in the Associated Press article “Compromise put to the test on Missouri Senate race,” which ran in several publications, including The Kansas City (Mo.) Star, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Jefferson City (Mo.) News Tribune.

Cathy Vatterott, associate professor of teaching and learning, was quoted June 18 in the Essence article “The homework solution.”
