Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel did it. So did Gary Belsky, a contributor at TIME.com and former editor-in-chief of ESPN The Magazine.

They both worked for The Current while students at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The Current is the student newspaper at UMSL.

For Zweifel, it turned out to be a foreshadowing of his future career. He covered student government and said the experience gave him a chance to see how public service can make a difference.

Belsky wrote a humor column. “Sometimes it was even funny,” he joked to graduates during a 2008 commencement speech at UMSL.

Judging by the two alumni, an internship at The Current might be a good move. The paper is looking to fill nearly 20 internship positions for the fall. They’re looking for editors, a staff photographer, a copy editor, a salesperson, a staff writer and a cartoonist, to name a few. In return, students will receive one to three credit hours.

Interested students can email Editor-in-Chief Cate Marquis at thecurrentjobs@umsl.edu or call The Current newsroom at 314-516-5174. There is also an application form online.

The Current has been the student voice of UMSL since 1966
