Great Getaway

Description: This is a Friday-Saturday overnight and we will be back on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. We will travel to Babler State Park for a short weekend away from the stresses of orientations and new classes and new schedules. The Great Getaway is a relaxing time to enjoy your new life and friends! Invite your friends, come make new friends. We don’t screen you or make you audition. We’ll have a bonfire (so bring your guitar-song-singing skillz), we’ll play some awesome brain-teaser and team-builder games, get to know people better, reflect with great conversation and some sharing and have loads of fun. No worries, we sleep in cabins with functional plumbing and showers. We leave on Friday at 5 p.m. and return on Saturday around 3 p.m., so there is plenty of time to procrastinate for the homework you may have due the next week. Register online by Sept. 5. Cost: $10.

Arianna String Quartet: Celebration!

Description: Aptly titled, the evening marks Yulia Sakharova’s first concert as the new second violinist of the ASQ, and kicks off the start of the classical music season in St. Louis. Composer and violist Kenji Bunch will join the ASQ on stage to perform his string quintet, “String Circle,” a piece he composed for ASQ’s own Joanna Mendoza. She describes “String Circle” as the “sounds of old friends coming together,” integrating jazz, rock and bluegrass in a joyous combination of sounds. Haydn: String Quartet, Op. 33 No. 2 “The Joke.” Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 3 in F Major. Bunch: “String Circle” String Quintet, featuring special guest Kenji Bunch, composer and violist.
