University of Missouri–St. Louis junior pitcher Zach Standefer (pictured) has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

On the mound, Standefer pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in a 7-0 win over Saint Joseph’s College (Rensselaer, Ind.) on Saturday. The Bethalto, Ill., native went the full seven innings and issued only one walk against the Pumas.

This is the first weekly honor for Standefer, who is majoring in nursing, and the second for a UMSL Tritons pitcher this season as senior Kyle Renaud took home the honor on March 11.

UMSL (6-8, 3-3 GLVC) returns to action Wednesday in a nonconference contest at McKendree University (Lebanon, Ill.) before traveling to Missouri University of Science and Technology (Rolla) on Friday and Saturday for a four-game GLVC series.
