University of Missouri–St. Louis senior guard Joshua McCoy (pictured, left) and junior guard Darian Cartharn have been named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Second Team, as announced recently by the league office.
McCoy, who earned second team all-league playing honors for the second straight year, averaged 14.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He also recorded 52 three-pointers, while shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 85.6 percent from the free throw line.
In GLVC-only contests, McCoy ranked 16th in scoring with 13.9 points per game and was ninth in three-pointers made per game (1.94), 13th in assists (2.88 apg) and 10th in free throw percentage (.870).
He graduates having scored 785 career points, which ranks 27th on the Top 50 list. His 109 career three-pointers ranks 10th all-time, while his career shooting mark of 39.4 percent from beyond the arc is fourth best. Additionally, McCoy shot 84.7 percent (188-222) from the free throw line, the second best mark all-time.
Cartharn averaged a team-best 14.9 points per game and drained 77 three-pointers, which ranks second on the UMSL single season charts. He also averaged 2.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, including 38.9 percent from three-point range.
In GLVC-only contests, Cartharn averaged 15.2 points per game, which ranked 10th and was second in three-pointers, averaging 3.22 per game.
McCoy and Cartharn are majoring in communication.
UMSL posted a 17-10 overall record, including a 10-8 mark in the GLVC, under third-year head coach Steve Tappmeyer. It was the UMSL Tritons’ third straight winning season – something the program hadn’t done since the first five years of the program, which began in 1966-67.
The Tritons set a single season record with 228 three-pointers and led the NCAA Division II in free throw shooting percentage (80.4 percent).
