Sophomore midfielder Sidney Allen of the University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s soccer team has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office. Wisconsin-Parkside freshman goalkeeper Mallory Geurts was tabbed as the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week. The 2013 season marks the first year GLVC men’s and women’s soccer has honored an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.

Allen, who is majoring in education with an emphasis in secondary education, helped UMSL to a 2-0 record last weekend by assisting on three of the four team goals scored. The UMSL Tritons defeated Emporia State 2-0 on Friday and notched a 2-1 victory over Lindenwood on Sunday in the Embassy Suites Invitational, hosted by Lindenwood.

The Eureka, Mo., native assisted on the second UMSL goal of the season-opening 2-0 victory over Emporia State and followed by assisting on both the game-tying and game-winning goals against Lindenwood.

Allen, who helped the Tritons to their first 2-0 start since 2001, is the first UMSL player to be recognized by the league since Liz Drennan was named Oct. 29 as the final GLVC Player of the Week of the 2012 season.

UMSL opens GLVC play at Quincy, Ill., on Friday at 5:30 p.m., before entertaining the league’s newest member Truman State on Sunday in the Tritons’ home opener at 12 p.m.
