A new YouTube video produced by UMSL’s Department of Music features a montage of students sharing why they decided to study music at UMSL.

It’s a virtual love letter to the Department of Music at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

A new YouTube video features a montage of students sharing their experiences at UMSL, praising the good qualities of the department and the overwhelming performance opportunities that are available to students.

In the video, Daniel Kuehler, a senior studying music performance in piano at UMSL, called the music department “the best kept secret in St. Louis.“

“It’s a great atmosphere for learning,” he added. Kuehler is especially pleased with the faculty, notably Alla Voskoboynikova, teaching associate professor of music and director of keyboard studies at UMSL.

“Alla is by far the best piano teacher I’ve ever had,” he said.

Last October, Voskoboynikova led a student trip, including Kuehler, to her homeland of Russia. The group took part in performances and lectures and, of course, sightseeing.

Zachary Cairns, an assistant professor of music at UMSL, produced and edited the video.
